Entire City Of Trion, Ga. Evacuated On Levee Fears

TRION, Ga. (AP) -- Crews are working furiously to shore up a levee along the Chattooga River that is in danger of failing.

Chattooga County officials say the rising waters forced them to evacuate hundreds of residents of the town of Trion, which sits near the levee.

Chattooga County Emergency Management Agency Director Lamar Canada says water is about a foot from the top of the levee and the river's level is rising fast.

He says "it's a grave situation for us -- it's the first time it's happened in more than a decade."

Red Cross officials are setting up an emergency shelter for as many as 300 people at a nearby shelter. Volunteers say they have already helped about 40 victims.

The county sits in northwest Georgia, near the border with Tennessee and Alabama.

You can see the tunnel for the Baker/Piedmont intersection in the bottom left. This pic is looking South. This is possibly the busiest part of the freeway this time of day.

google maps traffic definitely shows it as backed the hell up though. both sides of the interstate get to freedom parkway and then become parking lots

4:50 p.m. The 75/85 connector NB was closed for some time due to flooding that submerged cars and forced drivers onto the roof of their cars. GDOT was able to fix the stormdrain and its no longer flooded.

Just got home! I almost started crying. I get onto Buford Hwy, and I notice everyone is moving out of the right hand lane. There is a car stopped in a giant puddle. So I move to the left, but I notice the water is still pretty high. So I wait for the car in front of me to make it through and gun it. The whole time saying, "please make it. please make it. please make it." Seriously what the fuck are you suppose to do in that situation? It's a one way road with walls on either side.

I would have to have killed myself if my car got fucked by two puddles within 7 days.
