DELL getting into Smartphone Market?? Taps Android?

Not a big surprise that Dell has decided to create a Android based MID/Phone. WSJ has an article that Dell is developing such a device.

It has yet to be seen how Dell will attack the market with this device. The smart phone market is crowded, but jumping in with Android gives Dell a slight advantage as it's a great platform to base your hardware on. Dell has not confirmed it will sell this as a phone, but looking at the device itself Dell would be foolish to not include phone capability. Release date can be a disadvantage as many companies are planning Android phones, the G2 from T-mobile will be out later this summer. Around 15 android powered phones will be out by years end. If Dell jumps in early and their hardware truly stands out, not like their other pieces of junk (aka MP3 line); they have a great chance to capture a good amount of market share. Dell has never shown much design capability at least not like Apple. They are a me too company so if they are designing this phone, the hardware must be revolutionary.

The G1 is clunky, this looks more like a larger Palm Pre. The G1 sold well for being an ugly phone, which proves the point software drives sales. However should Dell work some magic and design equally compelling hardware for this sucker might have a life. Fuzzy pics are part of the industry, get used to it. Spies in China don't exactly carry around Canon 1Ds for their espionage.

Once Android releases multi-touch support, then i'll consider it. But hey cheers to getting sued by either Apple or Palm

If I were google, I would have purchased Palm, nothing like a hostile takeover while the company is down. All that delicious IP paired up with Android...now that is a iPhone killer.
