#59 by briantech (1.0000) posted on 8:37am Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
New York has Times Square
Paris has the Eiffel Tower
San Francisco has the Golden Gate Bridge
St Louis has the Arch
New Orleans has Bourbon Street
Shanghai has the Bund

What is Atlanta's spot that every visitor absolutely should go see?

I hate to say it but there is no truly iconic destination. When I first visited here for a tour at Tech, I posed that same question to our guide. The answer was go check out Olympic Village and eat at the Varsity.

I agree, somewhat. In that there isn't one single thing in atlanta that compares to those places I listed.
[Q]

My vote would probably go for Centennial olympic park. It's got the fountains, the backdrop of all the skyscrapers, the large concentration of attractions surrounding it.
[Q]

There's nothing in buckhead that can come close, and one could probably make an argument for peidmont park.

what about the Varsity? when i told people that I was going to tech in high school, a lot of people said, "don't forget to visit The Varsity." course that is a ghetto ass iconic destination.

I did a google search of atlanta tourist attractions and a majority of the guides listed the Georgia Aquarium

It's fast becoming one of the better known thing's to do in Atlanta and I do have to agree, this place is marvelous.
[Q]

Georgia Aquarium features more animals than any other aquarium in more than eight million gallons of water. Through a path of more than sixty exhibits, the Aquarium tells a global water story, with features modeled after the greatest zoos and aquariums in the world. Each majestic exhibit is designed to inspire, entertain and educate.

i dont know.....i think of that as like a theme park, you know, like disneyland and such. also, there are other aquariums, but only one place to see those things mentioned first. like when you say aquarium, depending on where you are you'll get different responses, but if you say Times Squares, you think NY. granted theres more than one varsity....
[Q]

The Varsity is a restaurant chain, iconic in the modern culture of Atlanta, Georgia.
^~~~ hahaha, the first line on wiki about The Varsity

See, thats why I say Centennial Olympic Park. There's only one of those in the world. It includes things like the Aquarium, World Of Coke, etc.

If you said that whole block with the park and aquarium, that would be it. It's called Pemberton Place I think?
