I actually never understood the appeal of lego kits. I mean if you like building models, then I guess they're cool.
[Q]

I always liked legos cause they let you build anything. So whenever I got the "build a spaceship!" lego kits i'd just build something else, and would be annoyed at the lack of variety of pieces.

I did both. Build the kit, play around with it, take it apart. Assemble many kits to acquire 540M parts and build whatever I want. Step on one small leftover piece after building and scream in pain.

I never got any of those fancy lego sets as a kid. Just 1 really old bucket of plain lego blocks (square piece, rectangle piece, and slightly longer rectangle piece), which was still the best bucket ever. though my creativity as a kid didn't let me get very far. I pretty much built houses....er...square boxes of different colors.

lol. I at least had the bucket that had the pneumatic shit in it. Wheels and pumps and tubes and sprockets. I made lots of cars. Well not really cars, but wheeled devices at least that could roll.

Same here. My parents were stingy with the toy budget, but I was always the type of kid who was more concerned with the box than what was inside anyway. I always thought Legos got me interested in architecture though.

I used to love to get the mini sets that came in McDonald's happy meals. Since I had two older sisters, we would get a decent amount of legos in just one trip.

My friend and I put together the Lego technic supercar as kids. Thing is still together. I loved the technic sets, especially if you mixed them in with regular legos. One could build some pretty ingenious shit.

There was another series around that time too called "Model Team". The kits had so many damn pieces. There was a Jeep, a race car, and a big semi-truck. They had crazy detail. You would build the engine and crap too, even though you couldn't see it in the final model.
