Mid-Autumn Festival

I was listening to NPR this afternoon, and they told the story of the Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Festival. Here are the basics from wikipedia:
[Q]

The Vietnamese version of the holiday recounts the legend of Cuội, whose wife accidentally urinated on a sacred banyan tree, taking him with it to the Moon. Every year, on the mid-autumn festival, children light lanterns and participate in a procession to show Cuội the way to Earth.

Apparently Cuội was taking care of the tree before she peed on it, so when it uprooted itself, he grabbed onto it to try to keep it, but it pulled him away. The Vietnamese folks celebrate it by eating "moon-cakes" filled with egg yolks or pork.

I thought it was a pretty strange story when I heard it the first time. Who would re-tell a story so ridiculous? NPR must have thought so too, since they thought it was interesting enough to tell me.

I already thought of the next one they should discuss: there are tons of people that believe a child was born to a virgin mother, and celebrate the baby's birth by pretending a fat man is being towed through the sky by miniature, domesticated deer.

Any particular reason?
